Race Director, Owner, Ultra runner
About
Brad T. Quinn is a race director, owner, and ultra runner with a passion for endurance sports and outdoor pursuits. Growing up in the heart of Wisconsin, he cultivated a deep appreciation for nature’s wonders and the thrill of organized races from a young age. His journey through endurance sports, including soccer, running, and skiing, instilled in him the vital lessons of perseverance and pushing beyond limits.

After pursuing studies in Occupational Therapy, Neurobiology, and Sociology at Colorado State University, Brad immersed himself in Colorado’s scenic landscapes, embracing the outdoor activities that define the region. His thirst for adventure also led him to explore Central America and the United Kingdom, enriching his experiences and broadening his horizons.
Since 1999, Brad has been making a significant impact as an Occupational Therapist, specializing in diverse fields such as school-based pediatrics, neurorehabilitation, and home-based geriatrics. His expertise in aiding individuals’ growth and rebuilding their lives seamlessly translates into his role as an event organizer. By harnessing his therapeutic skills, Brad creates transformative experiences for participants, empowering them to conquer challenges on their running journeys.
In 2006, Brad and his wife Nyla ventured into race directing, pioneering Capt’n Karl’s Trail Series, now North America’s longest-running night trail series. Their commitment to community support led them to introduce the Hill Country Trivium in 2013 and the Spider Mtn Trail Run in 2020, all while actively contributing to local nonprofit charities.

Nyla and Brad’s shared passion for outdoor adventure racing has not only shaped their own lives but also influenced the upbringing of their four children. Growing up in an environment where outdoor activities and races are a way of life, their children have been immersed in a world of adventure, perseverance, and community (Btw, the Volkswagon Westfaila was the course vehicle; pictured below. Brad didn’t know, what he didn’t know).

The inaugural Capt’n Karl’s event holds a poignant significance for Brad and Nyla, as it was graced by Nyla’s father, affectionately known as “Capt’n Karl” Lembke, who tragically lost his battle with cancer just weeks later. Since then, these events have evolved into heartfelt celebrations of life, honoring the enduring spirit and memory of “Capt’n Karl.”

Brad’s running journey has been marked by numerous achievements and notable trail runs, including directing over 80 events, racing various distances from 10k to 100 miles. He has completed impressive challenges like running 400 consecutive trail marathon days (13+k miles in 575 days) and another 50 trail marathons for 50 consecutive days (outdoor/off road miles only). With a passion for running and race directing, Brad aims to contribute to the running landscape of Wisconsin, and create transformative and memorable events that celebrate the beauty of the region.

The milestone of Brad’s 100th marathon was a testament to the bonds formed within the running community, as he was joined by Joe Prusaitis and Chris McWatters, showcasing the enduring spirit of endurance sports. Similarly, PJ Izaguirre’s dedication to Tejas Trails during the pandemic highlights the remarkable individuals who shape the running community.

PJ Izaguirre, a devoted and long-standing volunteer, has been a cherished friend of Tejas Trails for many years. Throughout the challenging times of the pandemic, PJ went above and beyond, assuming new responsibilities within the organization’s various events. As of the beginning of 2021, he made a significant transition, becoming both the race director and proud owner of Traverse Running.
PJ’s dedication and passion for the running community make him an exceptional individual. We extend our heartfelt well-wishes to both PJ and Chris McWatters at Tejas Trails, hoping that their journey continues to be filled with nothing but wonderful experiences.
Notably, Brad, too, will remain an integral part of the Texas running community. He will continue directing the Texas Trail Running Festival, established in 2017, as well as the Tinajas Trail Race, which also took root in the same year. Beyond that, Brad will continue to contribute through volunteering and, potentially, participating in events from a different perspective..actually running.
Throughout his journey, Brad is grateful for the support of his family, the running community, and those who share his passion. He looks forward to reconnecting with his roots and sharing the joy of outdoor pursuits with fellow enthusiasts in Wisconsin.
